Hello, and congratulations on your expectancy!
As your doula, I am here to advocate for your birthing preferences, provide seamless, holistic care that is evidence based and feels amazing, and help you to feel safe, held, respected, and truly cared for on every level. One of the most important things that often gets overlooked when forming a birthing team is your intuitive sense of safety- what makes you feel safe? Do you contract at the sound of my voice, or do you soften? Let's explore that together. (P.S. this is important to notice about your care provider, as well)
I invite you to have a look and feel around. If you'd like to gather more information and really feel into whether we'd be a great fit, you can contact me here, and we'll set up a time for an interview.
Many blessings on your birthing journey,
Carol

"Pregnant and birthing mothers are elemental forces, in the same sense that gravity, thunderstorms, earthquakes, and hurricanes are elemental forces. In order to understand the laws of their energy flow, you have to love and respect them for their magnificence at the same time that you study them with the accuracy of a true scientist. Birth is cyclic. We are looking at it through too narrow and linear of a lens. Birth asks us to open and expand.

I am a certified birth doula dedicated to supporting your birth journey every step of the way. It's important to begin with an interview so you can ask me the questions that are in your heart and notice if you feel safe and resonate with not just what I have to say, but also my energy. If you have a partner it's great if they can join the interview, as well! Once we agree that this profound connection has been made, we'll meet twice prenatally to clarify your visions and birth plan, equipping you and your partner with resources and information to make the educated decisions that best reflect your values, and we'll have a blast practicing comfort measures together. I'll be on call for you 24/7 beginning at 37 weeks.
In the earliest stages of labor I'll be there to help you demystify counting your contractions, find comfort and rest, figure out when to head to the hospital if that's where you're birthing, and decide when you're ready for me to come. Once we're together in labor, advocating for your choices, supporting clear communication with your medical team, providing intimate, skilled care to you and your partner, and respecting your choices are at the center of everything we do together. I bring my 20 years of healing arts expertise to co-create a healthy and sacred birth container that feels fully supported, deeply nourishing, and rooted in your wisdom and power.
My experience as a doula includes home births, hospital births with and without augmentation, VBACs, births with and without an epidural, pandemic-era virtual support, "advanced maternal age" pregnancies, and high risk hospital births. I fully believe in the innate power and wisdom of your body and feel that birth is natural, healthy, and sacred.

Of all the ways birth outcomes could be improved, continuous labor support seems like one of the most important and basic needs for birthing people. Research has shown that labor support from doulas is both risk-free and highly effective"

We cannot speak highly enough of our phenomenal doula, Carol. She is truly an amazing, special, caring, and wonderful person. From the moment we met her, her kind and empathetic energy made us feel at ease and supported.
Throughout our pregnancy, Carol was there for us every step of the way. Her knowledge and expertise were invaluable, as she guided us through the process and helped us make critical and important decisions. She took the time to explain everything thoroughly and calmly, and ensured we felt confident in our choices.
During pre-labor, Carol was an absolute lifesaver. She helped me through extremely painful and long contractions at home and had many wonderful magic tricks to ease the pain. From essential oils to TENS machines and supporting bands, she had it all covered. But what really stood out to me was her calm and reassuring presence. Even in the midst of what felt like chaos, her demeanor gave me the right feeling and comfort to continue with the birthing process and cope with the pain in a positive way. Besides that Carol was not only an invaluable source of support, but she also coached my partner to help me through the pain.
During birth Carol helped to navigate and advocate for us. During some of the challenging and unexpected conditions at the hospital she guided us through with positivity and strength. Altogether her presence made the experience truly magical and wonderful, a day we will never forget. It felt like we didn't just have a doula in Carol, but also a lifelong friend.
Even after the birth, Carol continued to be an incredible support for us. She made wonderful postpartum visits, checking in on us and the baby, making sure we were okay and knew what to do. Her expertise in newborn care and breastfeeding was invaluable as she provided guidance and answered all of our questions.
I highly recommend Carol as a doula. Her knowledge, kindness, and dedication to her clients are unparalleled. She made our journey into parenthood a positive and empowering one, and we are forever grateful for her support. We truly cannot thank her enough for everything she has done for our family.
Thank you so much,
Ursula & Farzam, Brooklyn

After a career as a modern dancer Carol went on to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. During her 3 years living in India she studied Ayurveda, became trained as a reiki master, a hatha yoga teacher, and discovered her love of Vipassana meditation. Dr. Azra and Seren Bertrand have been mentors for her with their profound work of Womb Awakening and Biomancy. Carol trained as a birth doula through DONA with Orgasmic Birth founder, Debra Pascali-Bonaro, Bumi Sehat midwife Ibu Robin Lim, Dr. Sarah Buckely, traditional midwife Alejandra Lozano, and IBCLC LaShanda Dandrich. She was then certified as an Advanced Birth Doula with Jada Shapiro and Birth Day Presence. She has been privileged to sit with medicine carriers of various Native and Indigenous tribal traditions and calls upon her maternal Taino lineage of midwives for guidance.
Carol lives in Manhattan's East Village with her husband, home-birthed teenaged son, and their kitty cat, Peanut. When not working you might find her volunteering in the school district, dancing 5 Rhythms or ecstatic dance, visiting with family, or just taking a walk to the local farmer's market. The stories of her great-grandmothers bringing in "all the babies on the mountain in Puerto Rico" continue to inspire and normalize the beauty, sacredness, and depth of her responsibility to this calling.
